Environmental quality

Beaches and countryside, sea, rivers, streams and air are clean, meeting legislative standards and public expectations.

Enjoying the AONB

Information on the natural and cultural heritage of the area is widely and readily available without intruding on the landscape itself. There is a network of easily accessible rights of way and viewpoints so that the many visitors and residents can enjoy the land and sea. A large variety of activities take place without disturbance to wildlife and other people. The increasing numbers of visitors are positively managed, without detrimental impacts on landscape quality. Any increase in visitor numbers is mostly associated with activities that are either low impact, or actively contribute to conservation.

Living and working

Diversity of residents in terms of age, income and occupation has not diminished and people of the area share an understanding and appreciation of its special qualities. Community members are involved in projects to conserve, enhance, understand and enjoy the AONB. Farming is maintained as a viable activity supported by a variety of farm-based enterprises. Fishing activity is still in evidence in each harbour, alongside recreational uses. The economy is broad-based with ongoing investment in business development of land-based, traditional and visitor industries and sustainabley produced local products.
